Health and Kinesiology

Kinesiology image

Kinesiology can discover health imbalances in the body’s organs and glands by finding any weaknesses in specific muscles. By stimulating and relaxing these key muscles, an applied kinesiologist can diagnose and treat a variety of problems.

Because of the close clinical relationship between specific muscles, glands and organs, it can be used whether the problem is in the muscle itself, or in an organ or gland.

Kinesiology applies a simple strength resistance test on a specific muscle that is related to the organ or the part of the body being tested. If the muscle tests strong (that is, maintains resistance), it indicates health. If it tests weak, it can mean infection or dysfunction

How does it work?

Kinesiology was developed by chiropractic physician George Goodheart Jr. A kinesiologist studies the activity of the muscles and the relationship of muscle strength to health.

The therory behind kinesiology is that muscles perform the main function of supporting and moving the bones. If a muscle is not working properly, the bones and joints it supports will not work properly either.

That is why people with structural imbalances and joint problems can benefit from this therapy. Applied kinesiology is popular with the chiropractic profession, which many patients consult because of physical pain and lack of function.

Muscles become weak for many reasons, including the need to keep an arm immobile in a cast because of a broken bone, for instance. A lack of exercise can also cause weak muscles, as well as poor posture or injury. A weak muscle will also show a delayed reaction when it is stimulated.

Kinesiology is a non-invasive manipulation therapy that often shows good results. It can restore muscle strength and reflexes and reduces pain.

What Happens in Therapy?

This will depend entirely on the particular problem, and whether it is acute or chronic, a recent injury or a long standing one. Your medical history will be recorded, including lifestyle and diet. You are asked whether there have been recent changes that could be related to the problem. Posture, how you walk and move and any obvious physical problems are carefully examined.

Muscle testing is performed and blood testing may be ordered if organ infection or malfunction is suspected. The results of muscle testing may indicate that you need stimulation of acupuncture points, or you may need to test nutrients on the tongue to see if these strengthen the weak muscle.

The spine may be adjusted and reflexes stimulated to aid in lymphatic drainage to a particular organ. Other therapies may also be recommended to strengthen a particular organ.

Because it deals with muscles during activity, so kinesiology is a superb approach to any kind of athletic injury. It is so effective at improving muscle interaction and stabilization that it’s often used for rehabilitation and to prevent injuries and improve athletic performance.

Kinesiology whilst relatively new, is rapidly gaining acceptance among practitioners and the public, due to the non-intrusive nature of this technique and therapy. A growing number of health-care professionals are therefore incorporating kinesiology into their treatments.
