Health and Magnetic Field therapy
Magnetic field therapy has an important relationship to the health of the body. It can be used in both diagnosing and treating physical and emotional disorders. It can relieve disease and may in some cases prevent the disease reoccurring. Magnetic therapy devices are now being used to relieve pain, help the healing of broken bones and counter the effects of stress.
The world is surrounded by magnetic fields: some are generated by the earth’s magnetism, while others are caused by solar storms and weather changes. Everyday electrical devices such as motors, televisions, computers, electric blankets, microwave ovens, the electrical wiring in homes and the powerlines that supply them, also create magnetic fields.
Even the human body produces subtle magnetic fields that are generated by the chemical reactions within the cells and the ionic currents of the nervous system. Recently, scientists have discovered that external magnetic fields can affect the body and the way it works in both positive and negative ways, and this observation has led to the development of magnetic field therapy.
What is Magnetic Field Therapy?
The use of magnets to generate controlled magnetic fields has many medical applications and is used as a very effective way of diagnosing illness. For example, MRI scans (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is replacing X-ray diagnosis because it is safer and more accurate.
In 1974, researcher Albert Roy Davis, noted that positive and negative magnetic polarities have different effects upon the body systems of animals and humans. He found that magnets could arrest and kill cancer cells in animals and could also be used in the treatment of arthritis, glaucoma, infertility, and diseases related to ageing.
He came to the conclusion that negative magnetic fields have a positive and beneficial effect on living organisms, whilst positive magnetic fields have a stressful effect. No scientifically designed studies or trials have been carried out to substantiate these claims, but numerous clinical observations and patient health feedback suggest that such differences are real and existing.
Humans need both internal and external sources of magnetic fields. It has been found that weak electrical currents promote the healing of broken bones. Dr Robert O Becker has discovered that electro-magnetic interference from power lines and home appliances can pose a serious hazard to health.
Conditions Benefited by Magnetic Field Therapy
Dr Becker demonstrated that the body concentrates negative electromagnetic energy at the site of an injury for healing to take place. If the body succeeds in sending enough negative magnetic energy to the injury, such as a cancerous growth, then this will heal. However, in many cases, the body doesn’t supply and maintain enough negative magnetic energy as it has natural limitations on how much it can produce.
Therefore, adding an additional negative magnetic field from another source can "top up" the necessary energy to help the body to heal. Magnetic field therapy penetrates the body and can treat a multitude of ailments without any adverse health side effects. Conditions that can be treated are:
Cancer
Rheumatoid Disease
Infections and Inflammation
Headaches and Migraines
Insomnia and other sleep disorders
Circulatory problems
Fractures and pian
Environmental stress
Menopausal symptoms
Magnetic changes in the environment can affect the healthy electro-magnetic balance in the body and contribute to disease. Doctors agree that humans receive approximately 30 percent of their energy from outside sources. It is also believed that the time people spend in cars and buildings reduces their exposure to the natural healing magnetic fields of the earth and may also interfere with health.
This condition is known as “magnetic field deficiency syndrome” which can cause headaches, dizziness, muscle stiffness, chest pain, insomnia, and general fatigue. Over the long term, the body can develop acute symptoms and chronic disease and a lowering of the immune systems’ ability to regain health.
How Magnetic Field Therapy Works
There are numerous forms of magnetic field therapy. Static magnetic fields are produced by natural or artificial magnets and pulsating magnetic fields generated by electrical devices. Those produced by magnets or electro-magnetic devices are able to penetrate the body and can affect the nervous system, organs and cells.
They can also stimulate the metabolism and increases the amount of oxygen available to cells. When used properly, magnetic field therapy has no known harmful side effects. All magnets have two poles – positive and negative. The positive pole has a stressful effect and prolonged exposure to positive magnetic poles interferes with how the body works for health.
The magnets used in therapy are negative poles and encourage rest, relaxation and sleep. It also has a healing response on the body and normalises the natural PH balance, corrects cells, eliminates free radicals, stimulates hormone production, and releases oxygen to cells.
Magnetic therapy can be applied in many ways and devices range from small simple magnets to large machines capable of generating high strength magnetic fields. Magnetic blankets and beds have also been made to promote sleep and reduce stress. Specially designed magnets can be placed either individually or in clusters above various organs of the body, on lymph nodes or on various points on the head.
The strength of a magnet is measured in gauss units with one gauss equivalent to about twice the average strength of the earth’s magnetic field. The strength of a magnet also depends on its size and thickness. Therapeutic magnets use between 200 gauss to 1500 gauss (only a fraction of what an MRI machine generates) while a common fridge magnet is about 10 gauss.
How treatments can be used
Treatments involving magnetic devices may be applied several times a day for days or weeks at a time, or it may involve wearing a device for months at a time, depending on the health of the patient and the condition it is treating. Devices can be worn next to the skin, or special magnetic blankets can be used at night. Other devices include: special cushions and pillows, and wristbands, amongst others.
The body’s subtle electromagnetic fields can be affected by even the weakest of magnets. Since even minor alternations in the field can cause mild to serious symptoms, magnetic therapy should only be practiced under the supervision of a qualified professional. There are some precautions to be taken:
Don’t use magnets on the abdomen during pregnancy
Don’t use a magnetic bed for more than 8-10 hours
Do not apply a positive magnetic pole unless under medical supervision
The Future of Magnetic Field Therapy
Leading health experts say that as our understanding of magnetic energy improves, we will see that the negative magnetic fields produce the most effective relief of pain caused by infections, swelling and acidosis. Magnets will prove central to healing, especially broken bones, bruises, burns, allergies and chronic diseases such as hardening of the arteries and Alzheimer’s.
Negative magnetic exposure can be used to control major mental disorders, and may be the most effective antibiotic treatment for infections. It is also becoming a more popular form of treatment in the medical mainstream. Due to its success so far and the lack of side effects, the use of magnets are proving to be central to the healing process.
