What is an Anti-Cancer for Health Diet?

antioxidants Fruit image

Cancer is a disease that is affecting the health of many more people especially in the modern western world. One in eight women in the UK is now being diagnosed with breast cancer and one in four men with prostate cancer.

This could be directly linked to the fact that food is now farmed in poor soil, frozen, stored for longer periods of time, filled with preservatives and of a poorer quality.

Beef products and dairy products should be avoided at all costs if you are suffering from breast cancer. This is because dairy cattle are pumped full of hormones to keep them producing milk, and when they are past their usefulness are slaughtered for meat. Breast cancer and other cancers of the sexual organs can be caused by consuming too many animal hormones.
More about this here

Meat in general is harder for the body to digest, and it's a good idea to cut back on the amounts we eat. The exceptions are lamb, which is a good source of iron, and can be eaten in small quantities. It is a young animal fed in pastures with little or no additives in it's diet. Organic chicken and turkey can also be eaten in small quantities

People are more often than not eating a poorer diet these days with less fresh food and more processed and over-refined foods. What follows is simply a diet that is high in the foods that have been long known to prevent and treat cancer.

This is a controversial subject that does not always have the blessing of most doctors and oncologists, and in fact the majority of the medical profession have been quite dismissive of nutrition as a sole cure for cancer.

However, having said that there is a great deal of evidence from previous sufferers such as myself which is living proof that the healthy diet approach is the best way to treat cancer and is far more effective than the process of poisoning the blood and killing the body cells with chemotherapy or surgery and radiotherapy, which also have severe side effects, in order to keep cancer at bay.

There is no substitute for an individual diet plan discussed with a nutritional therapist but there are certain principles in the diet that are common and relevant for preventing cancer cells first from growing and multiplying, before being killed off altogether.

A good diet and targeted supplements can also prevent cancer becoming a problem in the first place by boosting your immune system. Use the following diet as a preventative and incorporate the foods and supplements into your diet.

IMPORTANT - The following health diet is adapted from the diet I was on initially. It has been changed and adapted as I recovered – so this should not be followed without being under the supervision of a qualified nutritional therapist.

Foods to Avoid

All Dairy foods and products using cow's milk for the reasons explained above. These can be replaced by Soya products. Goats milk products can be used as well but very sparingly.

Foods containing cane sugar, fructose, syrup, or glucose; like biscuits, cakes, buns, sweet desserts, milk chocolate and so on -cancer cells thrive on sugar! This also includes sweet spreads such as Jam and marmalade, Chutneys and preserves.

Beef and beef products like corned beef.

Pork and pork products like ham and bacon – these products contain nitrates which are known cancer causing agents.

Tea and coffee - caffeine is a stimulant for the adrenal glands and lowers immunity.

All Processed foods like ready meals, canned vegetables, cheese, and meat/fish products like sausages and fish fingers.

Deep fried foods especially those cooked in used vegetable oil and fat.

White bread - it is a very unhealthy food, has no nutrients and is often filled with additives.

Foods to Limit

All the following foods should be eaten no more than about twice or three times a week with the exception of potatoes which can be eaten up to 5-6 times a week

Red Meat – small portions of lamb only

Organic Chicken duck or turkey

Organic Eggs

Potatoes and Grapes -because of the higher sugar content

Potatoes are best cooked by steaming in their skins, or by roasting in the oven without peeling, either as jacket potatoes or cut into wedges with a little olive oil as oven chips to retain their nutrients.

Foods to Increase

Now the best bit – ALL these foods are really healthy and can be eaten as often as you like!

All Green/root Vegetables. These can be lightly cooked by steaming or raw in salads - and organic whenever possible

Green Red and yellow Peppers

All Salad vegetables like Lettuce, cucumber, onions, tomatoes, radish, celery, watercress, alfalfa, beetroot, and spinach.

All Fruit – best are apples, bananas, oranges, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackcurrants, blackberries, redcurrants and kiwi fruit - and organic preferably. Dried fruit like raisins and sultanas are fine in small amounts as they are more concentrated in sugar. Figs and dried apricots are also very healthy and nutritious in small amounts - around a handful a day.

Bean sprouts and Chinese vegetables can be used in stir fries and are high in nutrients.
Have a clove or two of garlic every day. garlic is high in anti-cancer compounds.

Choose shiitake mushrooms and spice up dishes with turmeric and cumin -These all contain anti-cancer agents.

Try Alfalfa in Salads -found in good health food shops and supermarkets.

Nuts and seeds - best are raw peanuts, brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseeds and macadamia nuts

Extra Virgin Olive oil, Pomace Oil (oil made with olive stones) cooks great oven chips!

Herbs, black pepper and Sea/rock Salt for seasonings. Sea and rock salt contain more minerals than ordinary cooking salt

Lava bread -a delicacy from Wales made from seaweed – and is full of minerals

All Fish – preferable oily fish like: salmon, mackerel, sea bass, tuna, sardines, and pilchards

Corn pasta, rice (brown rice best), Rye biscuits, and oat cakes

Greek Hummus - can be spread on biscuits named above or used in place of butter on bread. Hummus is made from Garlic, chickpeas lemon juice, tahini (sesame seed paste) and olive oil and is therefore extremely nutritious

Tinned tomatoes/juice/ Tomato Puree. Tomatoes contain the anti-cancer agent Lypocene. Cooked tomatoes tend to have more concentrated lypocene than raw, surprisingly.

Soya mince used as a meat substitute in pasta sauces for example.

Pulses such as haricot beans, red kidney beans, chickpeas and lentils.

Organic cereal or porridge made with Soya milk

Red and green chilies.

Tofu as well as Miso (a spoonful in soups) and Soy Sauce used on Chinese dishes.

Apricot Kernels (vitamin B17) Eat 10 - 35 kernels a day (or equivalent in ground) chewed with soft dried Apricots or ground up and stirred into Fruit juice. See information page and health advice on how to take them.

Snacks and Treats

Potato wedges are more healthy with less fat than chips. Try eating potatoes unskinned, chopped in wedges and cooked in olive (or pomace) oil in the oven.

Cereal and fruit Snack health bars (preferably those with oats, seeds, and dried fruit) be careful of added sugars and read labels carefully.

Dried fruit like apricots and sultanas, figs, dates and raisins – not too many because of the need to limit sugar

Occasional glass of red or white wine - preferably organic. Red has more of the healthy flavanoids than white.

A few squares of organic chocolate – Plain, not milk, made with 70%-85% cocoa solids

Drinks

Tea - Herbal, green or fruit tea. Green tea is rich in antioxidants and anti-cancer compounds.

Essiac herbal Tea once or twice a day Essiac tea is made with 4 anti-cancer herbs and available from alternative health practitioners.

Diluted Fruit juice 1-2 glasses per day - This should be freshly squeezed – not the processed kind.

Vegetable juices. It is good to see more and more healthy Juice Bars springing up in the High Street these days!

Smoothies made with fresh soft fruit and Soya milk whisked together in a blender with vitamin C powder added are good to have in the mornings to give you a healthy start and set you up for the day.

Drink at least eight glasses of water, diluted juices, or herb and fruit teas each day. An excellent choice would be cat’s claw tea sweetened with blackcurrant and apple concentrate, green tea with apple, lemon, mint or chamomile Red clover tea is also good for menopausal symptoms.

As well as these foods, there are targeted supplements you should also take. Targeted supplements boost your immunity as they are concentrated forms of anti-cancer agents and antioxidants that work against cancer cells directly.

By following the above health diet guidelines you will lose weight, have increased energy, feel great, feel and look younger - and best of all will prevent AND TREAT Cancer – especially those of a hormonal nature – of the Breast, Prostate, Uterus and Ovary. Before changing your diet drastically, have a 3 month detox first.

This means going on a course of acidophilus tablets, avoiding bread and yeast products, alcohol, mushrooms, all yeast and sugary foods and red meat, and eating loads of fresh vegetables – as raw as possible. Avoid soft fruit and too many potatoes at first (because of high sugar content) but eat apples (including the seeds) bananas, and citrus fruit.

If you are suffering from any chronic disease don’t be put off by Doctors who tell you that the only treatments that work are drugs or surgery.

I am not advocating that you discontinue any medication you may be on suddenly - especially if you have been taking them for some time, but as the nutritional program works you may well find that you can discontinue with the drugs altogether after a time - with your doctors advice of course.

Don't forget drugs mask symptoms and cause side effects – they don’t heal the body or allow the body to heal itself like vitamins and minerals do.
